October 2017
My cousin Donna & I traveled to Chicago for Halloween Weekend.
Day 1:
We took Virgin Airlines (so fun with all of the lights and entertainment!) and landed in Chicago late in the afternoon. We took an hour subway ride to our stay and oh man, we got hit with the wind. It was FREEZING. I was sad because I wanted to wear my costume but it was too cold for that. We got off, decided to get some food, and most of the restaurants were empty because it was mid-day like 3-5pm? So we stop by a random place, got fries, and checked into our airbnb. The airbnb was three flights up a tiny stairway and it was cold! The room did not have a mirror LOL so we had to use the bathroom mirror and our make up mirror to get ready. There was a heater, but I don’t think we used it. Then, we almost got into the wrong uber to head to Willis Tower. There was 4 photo stations and we went in line 3 times and took a bunch of photos. Totally worth it!

As you can see, we stayed there for quite some time because it was light out and then it got dark.

After that, we had dinner with Donna’s friends at Bottlefork. It was pricey, but Donna and I said we only go on vacation once in a while, it’s okay to spend a little bit of money. We were there on their last weekend, because the restaurant is now closed. It was good and a romantic spot too!

Then Donna and I went to a nearby bar, grabbed a drink, and called it a night.
Funny story: When we got back to the airbnb, we opened the door, and saw our host sleeping on the couch with his mouth opened. It scared the crap out of us (since we didn’t meet our host when we checked in).
Day 2:
We took the subway to downtown, walked around, and went to Millennium park. We even saw a proposal at the Bean! Super cute!

Then we had lunch at Gino’s East Pizza and Donna and I thought it was alright. Hope that doesn’t hurt any of your guys’ feelings about deep dish pizza. While we were waiting for our pizza, I went to Starbucks to charge my phone. When we were eating, the waiter was nice enough to charge my phone behind the bar. Thank you!
Then we uber/lyft over to Navy Pier.

Then we wanted to take a boat river cruise into downtown but when we bought the $10 tickets at the booth, we realized that it was going to sail to Michigan Lake and not to downtown. We looked at the sign again and it said they were not sailing into downtown that day…
It was just us two on the boat…and it was FREEZING!!

We docked at the Shedd Aquarium and The Field Museum. We walked back to downtown and went inside a hotel to charge our phones and rest our feet. Definitely take breaks people! It will do you a lot better in the long run.
It was night time and we saw all of the lights lit up in downtown Chicago. We also had Chik Fil A for dinner too. The trash can there was automatic – so cool & clean!

We even saw ABC 7 News Live too!! That was awesome!!

We head back to our airbnb and got ready to celebrate Halloween! So I didn’t wear my costume cause it was so cold, but I brought cat ears just incase.

We took the subway to Wriggleyville and wow the crowd was so spirited! That was the most spirited I’ve ever seen people dressed up for Halloween. All of the bars were packed and one of them surprised me because it had an escalator inside! It was super fun! It was like a mini Vegas. I liked it! Oh and another surprised was that, when the bar closed at 2am, there was workers already working to clean up the streets!! That’s so good to keep the environment clean.
Day 3:
The sun came out! Thank goodness! We took a bus to the free zoo. Before we went there, we had Thai food for brunch.

Then we headed over to see the outside of Wrigley Field.

Then we ate at Portillo’s and this was SO bomb. I would eat this so much more than deep dish pizza haha.

We walked around downtown afterwards and snuck into LondonHouse rooftop. Woopsees. I saw this view on Instagram and luckily it worked out. We were for about 5-10 minute max and left because we felt bad. I feel like this place is so much fun for day drinking and nighttime partying as well.

Then we rushed over to the Michael Jordan’s statue before it closed. It was under construction so we couldn’t get near it.

And that is the end of our trip! Chicago, you were chill(y) and SUPER WINDY haha. That was the coldest I’ve ever experience. Each day was like 40 degrees. I learned from that not to complain about 60 degree weather anymore. I learned from that experience and prepared for my Vancouver trip. In Vancouver it was 30 degrees but I wasn’t as cold as Chicago, because I was all bundled up. It was a fun halloween weekend. I think the next time I want to go back to Chicago is probably spring or summer time just to watch some free concerts at Millenium park and possibly see a baseball game there. Thank you Chicago. #viviansventures
As always, thank you for visiting Vivian’s Ventures. Have you been to Chicago? If so, tell me in the comments/reply section of your experience. What should I do there if I go back? If you haven’t been, tell me what you are planning to do there. Any questions or comments, let me know.
