Key West

August 2023
This is a continuation from the Miami blog. We did a day trip to Key West. It was about a four hour drive there and four hour drive back to Miami, so about eight hour roundtrip. The ride itself was long but beautiful, because of the gorgeous blue water. I was nervous about this drive because it is a one way highway. So if you go, let’s pray that there will not be a car accident, otherwise, you are going to be stuck for a while (especially on the bridge)! I would recommend to do an overnight over here to relax, enjoy the small town, and the wonderful ocean!

When we got there, we parked near the Southernmost Point of the Continental U.S. monument and stood in line for about 10 minutes and got our photo! It was surreal to be standing there because we were literally the most southern point of the U.S.!! And it was only 90 miles away from Cuba! After that, we walked along Duval Street which had a lot of shops, souvenir stores, and restaurants. We stopped by the Key Lime Shop (there were about three of them that we saw), and had some key lime pie! It is a must try when visiting Key West! It was yummy, however, I am not a huge fan of cheesecake or sweets haha. Towards the north-end of Duval Street is Mallory Square. I heard Mallory Square is a fun area during sunset (they supposedly have live music, local vendors, and an amazing sunset celebration! I would check this out at sunset if we stayed there overnight). At Mallory Square, there were gift shops, aquarium, train ride, etc. After that, we walked back to the car and on the way, we stumbled upon The Smallest Bar in Key West! I saw this bar on Google when I researched things to do/see in Key West. When we were there, I totally forgot about it! Luckily, I turned my head as we were walking back and saw it! Ofcourse, we had to try it for the experience and the key lime shot was really good! It was a fun and short experience :). Then, we drove over to Barefoot Billy’s Watersport (right next to the Marriott hotel) for some jetski! We arrived there about 20 minutes prior, and we did not know that we had to take a test to get a temporary certificate in order to jet ski! It is a Florida rule! I panicked a little bit because everyone else on the tour was waiting for us! Luckily, we were able to look up the answers on our phone, but still, I wish the booking link told us that we needed to do this. It felt really rushed! Anyway, at Billy’s, you can leave your stuff with them. I did not bring my phone nor GoPro, but wished I did to capture the memories! However, the tour guide will take photos of you if you ask them. The tour guides gave very quick instructions and safety lessons and I was nervous. It was my first time jetskiing and I had a blast! Not going to lie, the first press on the engine….it went like 25mph and it was SO fast to me haha (but the jetski can go up to 75mph!). The first 15 minutes, they let you ride around to get use to the jet skis, then they took us on the tour around Key West. My friends and I were able to switch off so that we all took turns to ride the jetski solo. When we were further out in the Atlantic Ocean, I could not believe it, it was SO BLUE and beautiful. It was an amazing experience. After the jetski, they had a hose for us to wash down and a changing area. I want to jetski again and with this company too! After jetski, we got delicious Jamaican food at Yahman’s Authentic Jamaican Jerk Shack! It was so good! They had one indoor table and we were able to sit inside and enjoy the food before the long drive back to Miami.
I definitely go back to Key West again to enjoy the area and the beach! It was a cute small little town. I would even want to visit the other small towns in Key West such as Big Pine Key, Marathon, Key Largo, etc.

As always, thank you for visiting Vivian’s Ventures. Have you been to Key West? If so, tell me in the comments/reply section of your experience. What should I do there if I go back? If you haven’t been, tell me what you are planning to do there. Any questions or comments, let me know. Let’s chat!
